GWENDOLIN ABUNAW, A CAMEROONIAN BANKER, IS ONE OF THE CONTINENT'S 30 MOST INLFUENTIAL WOMEN LEADERS

Gwendoline Abunaw, a powerful Cameroonian banker and leader, has been named one of the top 30 African Influential Female Leaders by Strategic African Women in Leadership (SAWIL).

This award is awarded to African female role models who are leaders in change, gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in their respective professions.

SAWIL, founded in 2014, is an association for women who believe in the concept of "lifting as you climb."

The organization serves as a platform for African women leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals looking to improve their careers via leadership development, executive coaching, entrepreneurship training, masterclasses, board training, mentoring, and networking.

Gwendoline Abunaw has extensive leadership experience on the African continent. An encounter that provides her with the necessary push to win her nomination. She has been the Managing Director of Ecobank Cameroon since 2017 and has been recognized with bringing numerous improvements to the bank since her appointment.

She is also well-known for her contributions to the advancement of women in the financial and business sectors, as well as her support for solutions to business and development-related problems.

Gwendoline Abunaw's over 20 years in the banking industry helped her outperform approximately 20 other female Cameroonians on the shortlist.

Gwendoline has degrees from both the University of Buea and the London Metropolitan University.

She has worked at Standard Chartered Bank Cameroon, Afriland First Bank Cameroon, and Citibank Cameroon. Positions that prepared her for her current position as CEO of Ecobank.

She joined the Ecobank Board of Directors in 2014 and was subsequently confirmed as the Director of Grandes Enterprise for Cameroon and the CEMAC area.

Gwendoline was appointed Deputy General Manager of Ecobank Cameroon in 2015, then Head of the Financial Institution in Cameroon two years later.
