AVANCE MEDIA NOMINEES: LEADERSHIP AND CIVIL SOCIETIES

The Leadership and Civil Societies category focuses on championing young individuals who promote various activities in the country related to advocacy, religion and civil societies. For one to be nominated, they are required to possess the qualities of a leader and must have achieved significant strides and recognition in their work across the country and beyond. These individuals have proved themselves beyond measure. Please, read more about some of their impressive works below.

Bel-Dieu Charles-Guillom

Bel-Dieu is an air traffic controller, a physicist, a final year engineer student in electrical engineering and a certified young coach and mentoring  

Although he didn’t studied medicine, he envision a Cameroon where cervical cancer are diseases of the past. After her mother has been screened from having cervical cancer in early 2017, beside the fact that he was already the Rakellz Dream Initiative (Zambian NGO) Ambassador in Cameroon, he's decided to launch Health4ALL association, which is the first Cameroonian’s association dedicated to cervical cancer and HPVs fighting. 

So, through grassroots campaigns, online campaigns, companies tours and schools outreach he and his team have been able to touch more than thousands (1000) of women and young girls, through sensitization and facilitated screening operations for more than twenty (20) families. In 2018 he became, a Cameroon Leadership Academy fellow, and African Change Makers fellow.
He's the Cameroon Arts in Medicine Country director project Africa, which is a project gathering 18 countries, which aims to transform healthcare treatment experience trough Arts and to provide palliative care.They are working with patients living with cancers, mental illness, children in pediatric wards, refugees and caregivers. Present in 02 regions of Cameroon, and working with 02 hospitals and 02 orphanages home and and 01 inclusive school, with the help and support of 30 permanent volunteers (artists and health professional), and other local NGO. More than 200 children leaving with autism, HIV and cancer have been beneficiaries of Arts, through Arts in medicine project.

Fontoh Desmond

Fontoh Desmond is a Master’s Degree Holder in Climate Change and Consultant in the field of Climate Change with a 5 year Experience. He is currently the Acting West Central African Director for the Green Sahara Project and Executive Director of Crusaders for Environmental Protection and Ozone Watch Cepow Cameroon. 

Fontoh has participated and executed 10 projects; with key ongoing projects such as the greening of the Sahara Desert specifically South of Morocco, with aim at planting 2 million trees, Creating of 50.000 new jobs and moving about 200.000 people to new settlements for the first quadrat of the Green Sahara Project. Further he is fully involved in the project, to transform Coal to Organic Fertilizer to improve agricultural productivity and production of thousands of local farmers.

At the local level he is involved in the creation of the Chomba Community Forest through the planting of 25000trees, to protect the lone water catchment and habitat to a population of about 6500 inhabitants. Further with the Eco kids for Future project aimed at empowering 200 kids on conscious best environmental practices. Fontoh drive has made him stand on the slogan is All for a save planet, Pledging for a healthier planet.

Sakah Bernard

Sakah is a young dynamic, award-winning social activist, life skills trainer, public speaker and seasoned consultant with over 17 years track record of servant leadership. His commitment to volunteerism accounts for his increasing engagements in initiatives including as Co-founder/Managing Director of Big Steps Outreach Network (BONET) since 2011; and active membership in over 6 social enterprises. He is currently pursuing Doctorate studies in Governance and Regional Integration (Masters Degree in same field) from the Pan-African University. 

Alongside his BONET team and driven by a solution oriented attitude, Sakah has consistently impacted over 28 000 persons (especially girls, women, youth, orphans, etc) through direct and indirect initiatives. For instance, the ‘’Back to School’’ project that has benefitted 800 pupils and 120 teachers from 30 schools in the North West Region; comprehensive Sexual reproductive health and rights programme that has impacted over 6500 youth in 24 institutions across 3 regions of Cameroon; and numerous campaigns on human rights, gender based violence (GBV), governance, Agenda2063, SDGs. 
Sakah has further demonstrated outstanding leadership skills through regular public speaking and empowerment outings targeting women/youth; impactful advocacy efforts through over 50 national and international high level policy consultations with reputable institutions including the National Commission for Human Rights and Freedoms-Cameroon; the African Union Commission, the United Nations Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa; and immense contributions through over 300 local and international events in diverse domains. Sakah currently coaches/mentors over 180 youth/women in domains like servant leadership, social entrepreneurship, volunteerism, and advocacy.
